Why do human societies continue despite the climate emergency to destroy the very conditions of their existence, and then “eat their heads off” (“kafasını yemek”, a Turkish proverb meaning “to eat one’s head”, was the theme for the official program of the 2022 edition)? In fact, our brains may be evolutionarily pre-programmed for short-term pleasure maximisation. With us, a collaborative work of art has been created – a participatory collage on a brain sculpture, pasted over with selected fragments symbolising our collective subconscious. After two days, everyone was finally invited to meditate together and the stimulus-flooded cerebrum was ceremoniously painted over with colours. The good news is: Our brains can indeed be reprogrammed. Do we possibly already carry the key to transformation within ourselves?
